Monsters Close Season With Griffins

MATCHUP
To close out the regular season, the Lake Erie Monsters (34-31-3-7) will entertain the Midwest Division Champion Grand Rapids Griffins tonight at 7:30 PM. The Monsters saw their season-best five-game win streak snap last night in a 5-2 home loss to Chicago, while Grand Rapids clinched the Midwest Division’s regular season championship with a 3-1 home win over Peoria that snapped a four-game winless drought. This season, the Monsters have won one of five meetings against Grand Rapids, and have suffered overtime losses in each of the two meetings against the Griffins at The Q.

LAST TIME OUT
The Monsters fell 5-2 at home against Chicago last night, as Chicago took a four-game sweep of the Monsters for the ’12-13 campaign. Tomas Vincour’s two points stretched his point streak to five games, while Paul Carey’s two points give him a six-game point streak. Calvin Pickard entered the game in net in the second period in relief of Sami Aittokallio, and Pickard stopped nine of 10 shots.

PLAYER TO WATCH: MONSTERS
Vincour’s brief run as a Monster includes just five games played, but the forward has five goals and six assists for 11 points in his five games with the team. Playing on a line with Paul Carey and Andrew Agozzino, the trio has experienced great offensive success late in the season.

PLAYER TO WATCH: GRIFFINS
Tomas Tatar has five assists in three games against the Monsters this season, and is Grand Rapids’ active scoring leader with Gustav Nyquist currently with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings.

TUNE IN
All of tonight’s action, live from Downtown Cleveland, can be heard live on ESPN 850 WKNR and seen live on MY 43 THE BLOCK WUAB with Doug Plagens on the play-by-play, Jock Callander as color analyst, and Kenny Roda reporting from rinkside.
