What's On Tap...Battling the Bulldogs

What's on Tap
On Wednesday night the Monsters play their final road game against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum of the 2009-10 regular season, as the game marks the fourth time in the past 12 days the teams have met, with each game being played on Canadian soil.

Lake Erie earned their first-ever road win against the Bulldogs on January 2nd in a 3-2 victory before dropping a 3-1 contest six days later, on January 8th, back at Copps Coliseum. Most recently, on Monday night, the Monsters kept an unblemished overtime record, beating the Bulldogs 3-2, as forward Marty Sertich capped the night with his eighth goal of the season at the 3:58 mark of the extra session.

The Monsters current two-game winning streak has happened due in large part to the play of Sertich, who has netted the game-winning goal in each of the past two games and has posted three points (2G, 1A) in that span. In Monday’s win Sertich was named the game’s third star while in Lake Erie’s 3-1 win January 9th at Rochester, Sertich registered a goal and an assist and earned second star of the game honors.

Lake Erie’s hot play of late – the team’s won 10 of their past 14 games – can also be traced to the men in between the pipes, as goalies Tyler Weiman and Billy Sauer have allowed an average of just over two goals per game in that stretch. If the Monsters are to win Wednesday, they’ll need the same strong performance from whichever goalie is called upon as Hamilton’s offense is the fifth-best in the AHL, averaging 3.20 goals per game.

After Wednesday, Hamilton and Lake Erie meet just two more times in the regular season, as Hamilton comes to Quicken Loans Arena on February 12th and March 19th. Also, following Wednesday’s contest, the Monsters finish up their six-game road trip with a set of games Friday and Saturday against the Abbotsford Heat. Proceeding the Abbotsford games, the team will have a brief break for the AHL All-Star game, which will be held on January 19th in Portland, Maine.

Both  games this weekend and every game this season will be broadcast on the Monsters flagship radio station, ESPN 850 WKNR.  Listen Live on ESPN 850 WKNR | Watch here via AHL Live

The Monsters next home game is set for Friday, January 22nd against the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling (216) 420-0000, by visiting LakeErieMonsters.com or by visiting any Northern Ohio Discount Drug Mart.
