Another Win, Another Shutout for Monsters

It was a different game Wednesday night, but more of the same for the Lake Erie Monsters. The team’s defense was perfect for another 60 minutes, recording their second consecutive shutout en route to a 1-0 win against the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center.

Less than 24 hours after Monsters goalie Tyler Weiman watched rookie Trevor Cann record his first win and shutout as a professional, Weiman picked up his first shutout of the season, making 27 saves in Wednesday's win. Last season, Weiman lead the American Hockey League with eight shutouts.

At the 12:59 mark of the first period, the Monsters would get the game’s only goal from someone who’s been getting used to lighting the lamp – alternate captain Chris Durno. Durno’s power play marker, his fifth tally of the year, is his fourth in the past three games. Durno has recorded six points in the past four games (4G, 2A).

Picking up assists on the goal were forwards Darren Haydar and Phil Dupuis. With the assist, Haydar has recorded a point in the past four consecutive games, notching five points (2G, 3A) in that time. Dupuis’ assist, his first helper of the year, was his second point in the past two games, as the flashy French-Canadian has recorded a goal and an assist in the past two contests.

With the win, Lake Erie has won three in a row and improves to 4-4-0-0, taking an early 1-0 series lead in the first of four regular season games against the Aeros this season. The two teams next meeting will be Friday, November 13th at Quicken Loans Arena at 7:30 p.m.

The Monsters finish up their three-game road trip when they play the Texas Stars on Friday night at Cedar Park Center at 8:30 p.m. Lake Erie returns home on Friday, October 30th to take on the Peoria Rivermen at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling (216) 420-2000 or visiting LakeErieMonsters.com
