2008-09 Player Rewind...Tyler WeimanTweet05/06/2009 10:32 AM
It was a year of peaks for Tyler Weiman, as the Lake Erie goaltender set lofty franchise marks that any goalie who dons a Monsters jersey will be hard-pressed to achieve. Most notably, Weiman became the first Monster player to lead the league in a statistical category, as his eight shutouts were an AHL best. Weiman’s 21 wins, 2.46 GAA and 0.915 save percentage are all Monsters records to go along with his eight shutouts. Joined by defenseman Kyle Cumiskey, Weiman was named to the Canadian AHL All-Star Team in late January and appeared in the final period of the game. Highlights: • October 12th, 2008: Made 40 saves en route to picking up his first win of the season, a 4-3 victory against Toronto; named third star of the game. • November 1st, 2008: Picked up his and the team’s first shutout and first road win of the season in a 3-0 victory at Toronto; made 37 saves; named third star of the game. • December 20th, 2008: Recorded second shutout of the year in 4-0 win at Syracuse; made 28 saves; named first star of the game. • January 11th, 2009: Notched fourth shutout of the year with 31 saves in 3-0 win against Philadelphia; named first star of the game. • January 14th, 2009: Recorded second consecutive shutout, a franchise first, in 3-0 win against Quad City; named first star of the game. • January 23rd, 2009: Named to AHL’s Canadian All-Star Team • January 30th, 2009: Recorded sixth shutout of the season, making 19 saves in 3-0 win at Syracuse; named third star of the game. • March 20th, 2009: Registered seventh shutout of the season, making 25 saves in 2-0 win at Milwaukee; named first star of the game. • April 4th, 2009: Picked up eighth shutout of the season, making 21 saves in 3-0 win against Houston; named first star of the game.
