What's on Tap

The Lake Erie Monsters season officially comes to an end Saturday night, when they host the Western Conference’s second best team, the Manitoba Moose, at 7:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena. The contest is the fourth of the year between the teams, with the Moose having a 3-0 edge on the season series.

Manitoba enters tonight's contest on an 0-3-1 losing skid and a victory would allow the Moose to finish the season with the best record in the Western Conference.

Regardless of the game’s outcome, the Monsters will finish in sixth place in the North Division, as they are 10 points behind the fifth-place Syracuse Crunch and 10 points ahead of the seventh-place Rochester Americans. The Monsters, with 34 wins, easily surpassed last year’s mark of 26 and has put up 11 more points than last year’s squad.

Among the many other accomplishments this season, some highlights include:

Goalie Jason Bacashihua’s eight consecutive wins from 2/16 – 3/8; Tyler Weiman’s league leading eight shutouts; the team winning 10 of 12 games at home from early January to March; Weiman and defenseman Kyle Cumiskey being named to the Canadian AHL All-Star Team; Bacashihua becoming the first Monster player to be named AHL Player of the Week, as he was awarded the honor for the week ending March 1st.

The game Saturday is also Fan Appreciation Night, and the team will be giving away more than $100,000 in prizes.
