It was a 1-1 (David van der Gulik) game until midway through the third period on Saturday, before the Monsters took a 2-1 lead on a Luke Walker goal at the 8:25 mark of the final frame. Charlotte tied it up 2-2 with a goal at 18:23 of the third, forcing overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, Gerald Coleman stopped all five Charlotte shooters to secure a 3-2 win for the Monsters. Mike Connolly had the gamewinner in the shootout, while Patrick Rissmiller also converted.
