Unlikely Scorers Secure Win for MonstersTweet02/23/2012 9:31 PM
Hershey led 1-0 after one period due to a Ryan Potulny goal before the Monsters responded with a second period in which they outshot Hershey 12-4. Patrick Rissmiller, off a feed from Evan Brophey, fired in his ninth goal of the season from the left circle at 6:55 of the second period. Rissmiller tucked the puck just inside the post, and Joel Chouinard also assisted on the goal that evened the score at 1-1. At 13:30, the Monsters took a 2-1 lead when Patrick Bordeleau found the rebound of a Chouinard point shot for his fourth goal of the season. Zach Cohen also earned an assist, and the Monsters would never trailed again. Less than four minutes later at the 17:04 mark, the Monsters fourth line struck again when Cohen batted a rebound from the side of the goal that bounced off the post, and later off Hershey goalie Dany Sabourin and into the net. The Monsters took a 3-1 lead, with Danny Richmond and Eric Hunter assisted. Boyd Kane pulled Hershey back to within one on the power play with a tip-in at 5:16 of the third period. But Lake Erie’s Peter MacArthur responded with a power play goal of his own when he slapped in a rebound, his second of the season, from Cameron Gaunce and Brad Malone at 17:40. Hershey added a late goal to pull to within 4-3 with 1:25 left, a Tomas Kundratek tally, but that was as close as the Bears would come. Desjardins improves to 9-5-1 after stopping 27 of 30 shots in the win. Sabourin stopped 23 of 27 for Hershey, and his record drops to 10-9-3. NOTES: Both Cameron Gaunce and Brad Malone have assists in three straight games... MacArthur has goals in back-to-back games; his first two goals as a Monster... Both of MacArthur's goals have come on the power play... The Monsters swept the two-game season series against Hershey with a pair of regulation victories; the Monsters topped the Bears 5-4 on 11/26/11 in a game in which Malone scored the game-winner for the Monsters with 21 seconds left... The Monsters have now scored a power play goal in each of their last five games… Thursday’s game marked the first in the last 13 that goalie Gerald Coleman (9-4-1) has not started.
