Monsters Hit the Road For Two MoreTweet03/25/2011 8:21 AM
You Again?
Tonight, the Monsters and Amerks meet for the second time in four days. Through the first six games of this eight-game regular season series, the Monsters hold a 5-1-0-0 record against the Amerks. On Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena, the Monsters claimed a 2-1 victory to establish a franchise-high six-game winning streak. Through the first two periods, neither team managed to snap a scoreless tie due to stellar goaltending at both ends of the rink. In the third period, defenseman Shawn Belle put the Monsters up 1-0 with a goal that was assisted by David van der Gulik and Ben Walter. The Amerks answered exactly four minutes later, when Kenndal McArdle scored off assists from Clay Wilson and Chris Taylor. The Monsters finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play, while Rochester went scoreless through four chances with the man advantage. Jason Bacashihua stopped 20 of 21 shots faced in marking his third straight win. At the other end, Marc Cheverie went 31-for-33 in the loss. On the Road Again Tonight, the Monsters begin a two-game road trip and continue a stretch in which they play seven of nine games away from friendly confines. On the strength of a five-game road winning streak which currently ties a franchise high, the Monsters have an opportunity to set a new precedent should they win tonight. Power Trip In their last four games, the Monsters have gone 6-for-21 (28.6%) on the power play. Successful Stretch Remarkably, Lake Erie has won 14 of its last 17 games (14-3-0-0) and 22 of its last 29 (22-6-0-1) outings. In their last 29 games, the Monsters have strung together two five-game winning streaks (Jan. 14-20 and Feb. 6-18 ), along with their current six-game run which stands as a franchise high (March 11-present). Lake Erie also established a franchise-high seven-game home winning streak (Feb. 6-March 4) and a franchise-high eight-game home point streak (Feb. 5-March 4) in their last 29 games. Surging Monsters Center Ben Walter enters this weekend’s action on a six-game point streak (1G, 9A). Walter has recorded at least a point in 14 of his last 15 outings (3G, 19A), including five multi-point games during that time. David van der Gulik also rides a six-game point streak (3G, 10A) into tonight’s contest. Greg Mauldin’s five-game goal streak was snapped on Tuesday, but with a two-goal outing on March 18th, he’s amassed seven points (6G, 1A) in his last seven games. Forward Zach Cohen has notched two assists in his last two games. Matt Ford has totaled two points (1G, 1A) in his last two outings.
