2009-10 Player Rewind...Ryan Stoa

If anyone in the professional hockey world didn’t know who Ryan Stoa was before the 2009-10 season, they certainly became familiar with him by season’s end.

Despite playing in just 54 games, Stoa tied for the league lead among rookies and was second on the Monsters with 23 goals.

A native of Bloomington, Minn., Stoa came to the Monsters after a high scoring four-year career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

By season’s end, Stoa, Colorado’s second round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, had put up 40 points (23G, 17A) in 54 AHL games. But for the 6-3, 213-pound Stoa, the highlight of his season was April 9th, when the forward netted his first career NHL goal at the Pepsi Center against the Chicago Blackhawks. By year’s end, Stoa put up three points (2G, 1A) in 12 games with Lake Erie’s NHL affiliate, the Colorado Avalanche.
