The Manitoba Moose pelted the Lake Erie net en route to a 4-2 win over the Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday.

The game began with a flashy goal from rookie T.J. Hensick at the 16:00 mark of the first. Hensick glided through the slot and received a precise pass from Eric Healey, which he easily put past Manitoba goalie Cory Schneider. Hensick’s tally, his fifth of the season, extended his point streak to five games. Hensick’s 11 points lead the Monsters in scoring.

“T.J. is really starting to come along. He is learning more and more how to play in the AHL, coming from the college ranks,” said Monsters head coach Joe Sacco.

The Moose answered at the beginning of the second period and never looked back. The barrage of shots came from all angles, the first of which came from defenseman Danny Groulx on the power play at the 1:19 mark.

The Moose went on to score three more unanswered markers in the period to put the Monsters in a three goal deficit.

As the game drew to a close, Dan DaSilva returned to action for the first time in weeks and scored his first career tally as a Monster. The power play goal by DaSilva was assisted by Codey Burki.

“It definitely felt good to get back out there. I started off a little slow, but I felt it come together in the third period. Things started falling back into place,” said DaSilva.

DaSilva’s marker was one of the few bright spots for the Monsters in the contest.

After the first tally of the game by Hensick, the Monsters appeared to be a step behind the Moose.

“It’s a lesson for us that we have to be ready. We talk about playing a full 60 minutes and we have to do that,” said Sacco.

Goaltender Mike Wall made 34 saves on 38 shots in his first action since Nov. 10th. Opposing goalie Schneider made 16 saves on 18 shots faced.

Burki and Eric Healey both recorded an assist, which gives the duo each two points in the last two contests. In addition, Chris Stewart’s assist on Hensick’s goal gives him five points in the last two games (3g, 2a).

Lake Erie heads to Toronto on Wednesday night to face the Marlies, followed by the team’s first visit to Rochester on Friday.

The Monsters return to action at home Saturday, Nov. 24th at 7:30, again against the Moose.
