Monsters Overpowered by Wolf PackTweet02/13/2009 8:31 PM
The game was filled with penalties from start to finish, as the two teams combined for 78 penalty minutes, a season high for a Lake Erie game this year. Lake Erie finished the game going 1-for-10 on the power play, while Hartford converted three of their eight man advantages. Despite doubling Lake Erie's offensive production in the first period, putting up 16 shots compared to eight from the Monsters, the Wolf Pack didn't score until late in the frame. Artem Anisimov scored at 16:36 on a power play, assisted by Bobby Sanguinetti and Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, sending Hartford into the locker room with a 1-0 advantage. Again doubling up on the Monsters in shots, 14-7, the Wolf Pack did most of their damage in the second period. Corey Potter got the scoring started at the 4:17 mark, helped by Patrick Rissmiller. Potter rang the bell again just a minute later, scoring again at 5:30 on the power play. This time he was assisted by Sanguinetti and Tommy Pyatt. Greg Moore continued the Wolf Pack barrage at 13:22. Devin DiDiomete and former Monster Vladimir Denisov were credited with the assists. Hartford finished the second period with a 4-0 lead. Lake Erie finally got on the board in the third period, when Tom Fritsche scored at the 6:28 mark on a power play. He was assisted by Darcy Campbell. The Wolf Pack came right back with a goal by Rissmiller at 7:52, assisted by Potter and Sauer. It would take almost 10 minutes, but Hartford would strike one more time before the end of the night. Parenteau found the back of the net at 16:47 on another man advantage. Denisov and Anisimov had the assists. The Monsters put up a final valiant effort, scoring once more before the close of the game. Chris Durno scored at 19:03, unassisted. Lake Erie netminder Jason Bacashihua finished the night with 33 saves on 39 shots. Hartford goalie Matt Zaba recorded 22 saves on 24 shots. The Monsters continue their road trip in Manchester on Saturday. |
