A balanced scoring attack and stellar goaltending earned the Monsters their first road win of the season when they blanked the Marlies, 3-0, in Toronto Saturday afternoon.  Tyler Weiman recorded a whopping 37 saves on his way to earning his and the team's first shutout of the 2008-09 season.  He was helped by Lake Erie's offense scoring once each period, finding the back of the net on three of their just 14 shots in the game.  Lake Erie's penalty kill also came up big in the win, denying the Marlies on all eight of the power plays.

Aaron MacKenzie got the scoring started for the Monsters when he scored unassisted 6:22 into the game.  It was his first goal with the Monsters and his first point since October 17th.  MacKenzie's score was one of just four shots for Lake Erie in the period.

More than a full period of time would elapse before the score would change.  The first period came and went with the Monsters maintaining their 1-0 lead, and after an unsuccessful Chris Mueller penalty shot attempt just 59 seconds into the second, it looked like the second frame would end the same until Chris Durno found the back of the net at the 14:36 mark of the period.  He was assisted by Jesse  Boulerice and T.J. Galiardi. The goal was Durno's third of the season, while Boulerice's assist was his second in as many games.

Holding onto a 2-0 lead to start the final period, T.J. Hensick added an insurance goal just 26 seconds into the third session.  Kyle Cumiskey was credited with the assist.  Hensick has now scored in four straight games for Lake Erie, and leads the team with 13 points (6G, 7A) on the season.  He has recorded a point in seven straight games (5G, 4A), and nine of the 10 games this year.

Neither team could take advantage of the many penalties in the game.  The Monsters were 0-5 on their power play opportunities, while Toronto was 0-8.

Weiman was a perfect 37-37 in net for the Monsters, picking up his second win of the season.  His first win came against these same Marlies, a 4-3 victory in Cleveland on October 12th.  Toronto netminder Justin Pogge posted 11 saves on 14 shots. The 14 shots taken by Lake Erie is the lowest in franchise history.

The 3-0 win is the largest margin of victory for the Monsters so far this season. Lake Erie is now 4-5-0-1 on the year, and will return to action on Friday in Grand Rapids.
