Season in Review, Stefan Elliott

Stefan Elliott, like fellow blueliner Tyson Barrie, was a rookie in 2011-12. Also like Barrie, he was a former Western Hockey League Defenseman of the Year, and made his National Hockey League debut during the season. Among players who wore the Monsters sweater in ’11-12, Elliott registered more games played with the Colorado Avalanche than anyone else: 39 games, and he totaled four goals and 13 points with the big club. The second round pick- 49th overall- of the Avalanche in the 2009 draft made his regular season debut as a 21-year old in October after a five-game stint with the Monsters in the 2011 playoffs. Elliott, despite playing in just 30 games for the Monsters, picked up five goals and 14 points, placing him third among Monsters defensemen in points.

Elliott began the season as a regular on the blue line, and when he returned to the lineup between stints with Colorado, he provided an immediate boost to the Monsters lineup. He scored his first professional goal in dramatic fashion; in overtime of a 3-2 Monsters win over the Syracuse Crunch on October 22. That Monsters victory was their first of the season following a six-game winless skid to start the season.

Elliott’s season highlights:
  • 10/7/11: Earned first regular season professional point, an assist, in the Monsters 2-1 home loss to Abbotsford on opening night

  • 10/22/11: Scored overtime winner and added an assist for his first professional multi-point game, and first multi-point game of the season in a 3-2 Monsters win in Syracuse. Elliott had two multi-point games overall on the season

  • 11/25/11: Loaned to Colorado; Elliott’s first National Hockey League call-up

  • 11/26/11: Made NHL debut, and scored first NHL goal, in Colorado’s 5-2 home win over Edmonton. Elliott scored twice in his first three NHL games, and had at least a point in each of his first three NHL games from 11/26/11 to 11/30/11

  • 2/18/12: Scored two goals and added an assist for his first professional multi-goal game, and professional career-high of three points, in a 3-1 Monsters win over Rochester at Quicken Loans Arena

  • 3/4/12: Picked up a pair of assists in Colorado’s 2-0 win in Minnesota; his first and only NHL multi-point game
