Despite outshooting Charlotte 11-8 in the first period, neither the Monsters nor Checkers were able to score in the opening frame. Charlotte got on the board first, but Greg Mauldin tied it up at 15:30 of the second. The score would remain 1-1 through the end of regulation, forcing overtime.

Unlike the previous three Monsters games, this one would be decided in overtime, not a shootout. Cameron Gaunce scored at 1:20 of the extra session to give the Monsters the 2-1 win.

Cedrick Desjardins finished the night with 34 saves on 35 shots.
