Monsters Host Stars for First TimeTweet02/14/2012 4:31 PM
Three straight wins and counting; the Lake Erie Monsters (24-22-2-2) will be looking to continue their stellar play in the fourth-ever Student Education Day Game on Wednesday, where they’ll meet the Texas Stars (21-24-2-2). The Monsters tied a season high by extending their unbeaten-in-regulation streak to six games with Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch. With the Stars having struggled lately- they’ve lost two straight and are 3-6-1-0 in their last ten- the Monsters have an opportunity to continue their charge into the Western Conference playoff picture with a victory.
Patrick Rissmiller is responsible for the game-winning goal in each of the Monsters last two games. His second-period tally against Syracuse on Sunday extended his points streak to four games. Rissmiller has been teaming with Evan Brophey and Greg Mauldin to form a forward line. Rissmiller’s point streak isn’t the longest on the Monsters, however. Defenseman Danny Richmond has points in five straight games- and two goals and five assists overall- since joining the Monsters. His contributions in all facets of the game, especially on the power play- where he has scored each of his goals- have been noticeable and welcome. Speaking of new Monsters, forward Peter MacArthur is the newest addition to the club. He’s a Boston University alum who topped the 40-point mark in his first full AHL season in 2009-10 with the Rockford IceHogs. MacArthur averaged well over a point per game with the Las Vegas Wranglers in the ECHL this season alongside one-time Monsters forward Eric Lampe, and has the ability to contribute in any situation. Ryan Garbutt is a Texas Stars forward to keep an eye on. With five goals and six points in his last six games, he has been a bright spot for a struggling Stars squad. Forwards Travis Morin- who leads the Stars in assists with 34- and Matt Fraser- the team’s goal leader with 23- are a tandem to watch. Furthermore, Mathieu Tousignant’s ability to agitate opponents doesn’t show in the box score, but is always noticeable. If you can’t make it to Quicken Loans Arena for Wednesday morning’s contest, listen live on AM 1540 KNR2. |
