Road Trip Ends with Comeback WinTweet02/10/2012 10:17 PM
Peoria opened the scoring at 4:36 of the first period on an Anthony Nigro wrist shot, and extended their lead to 2-0 when former Monster T.J. Hensick scored a power play goal from a sharp angle at 1:44 of the second period. Dean Strong's first goal as a Monster cut the Rivermen lead in half, making the score 2-1 at 8:29 of the second, when Strong sent the rebound from a Joel Chouinard shot into the top corner of the net from the slot. Patrick Bordeleau also assisted. With less than a minute remaining in the second period, Luke Walker fired a pass from behind the net to Danny Richmond in the slot, and Richmond netted his second goal of the season and second as a Monster on the power play to tie the game at 2-2. Mark Olver also assisted on the goal. The lone goal of the third period came on a Monsters power play courtesy of Rissmiller, who received a pass from Richmond and slipped the puck through traffic into the top corner of the Peoria net for the eventual game-winning tally. Gerald Coleman stopped 32 of 34 Peoria shots to improve to 6-2-1 on the season for the Monsters. AHL All-Star Game MVP Ben Bishop stopped 20 of 23 shots in the Peoria net, as his personal record slips to 20-13-0. The Monsters are back in action Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena when they welcome the Syracuse Crunch to Cleveland for a 3:00 PM puck drop. NOTES: Luke Walker's assist gives him a five-game point streak, tying a Monsters season best... Gerald Coleman started his seventh straight game in net; just the second time a Monsters goalie has started seven consecutive games this season (Trevor Cann, 12/29 to 1/14)... Evan Brophey's four-game point streak snapped on Friday... Danny Richmond has at least a point in each of his four games as a Monster, and now has two goals and four assists in four games since joining the club... The Monsters are 10-41 on the power play over their last 10 games... They are now 8-11-0-3 against Peoria all-time, and 7-4-1-1 against the Midwest Division this season... The Monsters finish the season series against Peoria with a record of 2-1-0-1. |
