Tonight the Lake Erie Monsters (16-17-1-1) will attempt to rebound against the Chicago Wolves following last night’s 6-3 loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Admirals. Four second-period goals allowed by the Monsters all but sealed the victory for the Admirals, who won their 20th game and dropped the Monsters back under the .500 mark.

Three players collected multiple-point efforts against Milwaukee: Tyson Barrie, Evan Brophey, and Patrick Rissmiller all finished with a goal and an assist. Barrie’s goal was his first professional shorthanded tally, while Brophey and Rissmiller each scored on the power play. The power play goals helped snap a string of three games in which the Monsters power play had failed to score. Matching the Monsters, though, the Admirals power play collected two goals as well.

James Reid saw his third appearance of the season in net for the Monsters, logging 22:20 of game time and stopping 10 of 12 shots sent his way. He entered the game late in the second period in relief of Monsters starter Trevor Cann, whose night was abbreviated following his fourth goal allowed.

The competition doesn’t get any easier against the Wolves this evening; a Chicago team that’s coming off a 5-2 road win over the Peoria Rivermen. This is the first meeting of the season between the Monsters and Wolves (17-12-1-3). For the Monsters, the game carries an increased level of importance following last night’s loss to Milwaukee. After spending almost the whole first half of the season working to return to the .500 mark, the Monsters are once again below .500 and will play their next four games away from Quicken Loans Arena. The Monsters are 7-9-0-1 on the road this season. What’s more? The Wolves are a perfect 6-0-0-0 all-time against the Monsters at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

Barrie is the Monster to keep an eye on; a guy who truly is in the elite prospect category; all signs point to the rookie defenseman having a long, productive hockey career. His multi-point game last night was his sixth multi-point game of the season. Barrie also has two goals and nine points over his last nine games since December 14th, along with a +6 rating over the Monsters last five outings.

Mark Mancari is an opponent to watch tonight, as the forward has eight goals and 15 points in his last nine games played. Steven Reinprecht, a veteran of 663 NHL games who hadn’t played in the AHL until this season, has two goals and eight points in his last six games played for Chicago. The Wolves boast a goaltending tandem of Matt Climie and Eddie Lack; both of whom give the Wolves a chance to win each night. Climie’s save percentage is .922, while Lack’s is a .919.
