Tonight Lake Erie is playing its fifth consecutive home game. The Monsters have posted a 2-2-0-0 mark so far on this run, as they’ve taken wins over Oklahoma City (3-1, Jan. 18) and Rochester (2-1 OT, Jan. 20), while their losses have been to Houston (2-1, Jan. 22) and Peoria (3-1, Jan. 23). Prior to their loss to Houston, the Monsters established a season-high five-game winning streak that tied a franchise mark for consecutive victories. The Monsters are 12-7-2-2 within the friendly confines of Quicken Loans Arena. Lake Erie is in a stretch of playing 12 of 13 games at home. Meeting the Marlies Toronto's record of 22-18-0-7 places them third in the North Division, while they are just two points ahead of Lake Erie (21-21-3-4). The Marlies’ 14 regulation losses within the North Division are the most in the seven-team group, while their nine wins within the division tie Abbotsford for second fewest (Rochester 7). Toronto’s overall penalty killing unit is 86.4% effective, good for second in the AHL. The Marlies’ road penalty kill ranks seventh with an 86.4% efficiency. Lake Erie's home penalty killing unit ranks second in the league with an 88.1% success rate. Top Guns Right wing David van der Gulik rides a three-game point streak into tonight’s game (2G, 1A). Van der Gulik has recorded four points (2G, 2A) in his last five games. Rookie center Mark Olver established a season-high five-game scoring streak (6G, 1A) from January 14th-January 20th. Olver leads the Monsters with 17 goals and ranks second on the club with 28 points. Ben Walter is currently on a two-game assists streak, while he leads the team in helpers (21) and points (34).
