Monsters Can't Hold on in Houston

Lake Erie put together two good periods in Houston on Friday night.  Unfortunately, the Aeros put together a better third, and left the Toyota Center with a 3-2 win. The Monsters held onto a one-goal lead after two stanzas, but could not stop Houston from finding the net twice in the third.

The Monsters came into Friday - the first-ever meeting between the teams - with a two-game road winning streak.  They shot out of the gates to start the game, as center Cody McCormick (2) scored at :32, assisted by Cody McLeod and Mark Rycroft.  Houston's Joel Ward tied the game at 9:04 in the opening period when he scored his first goal of the season.

The teams were evenly matched through the end of the first and beginning of the second.  Left wing Eric Healey put the Monsters up again, 2-1, with his goal at 9:45 on the power play.  T.J. Hensick and Mark McCutcheon assisted on the go-ahead.

Lake Erie held their lead through the middle of the last period, when the Aeros proceeded to score two unanswered goals, securing the win.  Aaron Voros scored at the 8:35 mark for Houston, followed by Petr Kalus at 14:03.  The Aeros defense proved too much for the Monsters, as they held on for the final 3-2 victory.

With Friday's goal and assist, Healey and McLeod, respectively, now sit atop the Monsters points leaderboard.  Both players now have six points on the season (4, 2).

Tyler Weiman started his fifth straight game in goal for Lake Erie.  He allowed three Aeros goals, and saved 28 of the 31 shots he faced. In his six games this season, Weiman has posted a 3.69 GAA and .907 save percentage.

The Monsters will have a chance to avenge Friday's loss when they face the Aeros again on Sunday in Texas.  The puck will drop at 5:05 p.m. (ET), and the game can be heard live here through ESPN 850 WKNR, or through live webcast at B2 Networks.

After four games and three weeks on the road, the Monsters will return home to the shores of Lake Erie on Saturday, November 10th when the Quad City Flames come to town.  Tickets are still available and fans can purchase them online here.
