Lake Erie's shots on goal number on the final stat sheet looked like what you would expect from a team playing its third game in as many days, two of which came on the road.  The Monsters were outshot, 29-13, on the way to losing to the Aeros, 2-1, in Houston on Sunday night.  The defeat came after losing in Hamilton on Friday and at home against Manitoba on Saturday. Lake Erie's 13 shots on goal is just one shy of an all-time franchise low, set on December 10th in Peoria.

Heading into Sunday's game, Lake Erie was 1-1 on the season against Houston, with each team winning on the road. The last time the teams met, the Monsters defeated the Aeros in Houston, 6-2, on December 30th.  Lake Erie came from behind to win, scoring a league-high five goals in the third period. Tyler Weiman had 27 saves in that victory, the same amount he would record in Sunday's loss.

The Aeros defense kept Lake Erie's offense away from the net in the first period, allowing just two Monsters shots in the frame.  Houston only put up eight shots of their own, but one made it past Monsters netminder Tyler Weiman.  Jesse Schultz put the home team on the board at 12:02 of the first, assisted by Corey Locke.

As has been the case all season, Weiman kept his team in the game in the second period.  Houston looked to build upon their 1-0 lead by peppering Weiman with 15 shots in the middle frame, but they would be denied each time.  On the offensive end, the Monsters mustered four shots in the period. 

Lake Erie matched Houston shot for shot in the third frame.  Justin Bowers, in just his fifth game with the Monsters after being signed by the team on January 9th, evened the game for Lake Erie.  His power play goal at the 4:35 mark of the third was assisted by Derek Peltier and Darcy Campbell.  It was the first AHL goal of Bowers' career.

It looked as though the game may be headed into overtime, until Jason Ryznar scored the game-winner for Houston at 17:01.  He was helped by Tomas Mojzis and Brandon Rogers. 

Weiman finished the night with 27 saves on 29 shots, while Houston goalie Nolan Schaefer had 12 saves on 13 shots on goal.

The Monsters will return to action on Wednesday in San Antonio.
