Game Recap

Veterans Brad Richardson and Eric Healey did their part in trying to send the Monsters out with a win.  Playing the last game of Lake Erie's inaugural season, the two players combined for 10 points, but it wasn't quite enough to lift the Monsters past the Americans.

Lake Erie fell, 6-5, in Rochester on Sunday.  Richardson recorded his second hat trick of the season on the way to five points (3G, 2A) on the night, while Healey added five points of his own (1G, 4A).

The Monsters entered Sunday's game with a 3-1-1-0 record against the Amerks, including 1-1 in Rochester.

The teams kept pace with each other through the duration of the first period.  Both teams got off seven shots in the frame, with none of them connecting.

After a scoreless opening period, Lake Erie and Rochester came out with guns blazing for the second.

Brent Kelly got the scoring started, putting the Monsters on the board first at the 1:30 mark of the second period.  He was assisted by Healey and Richardson.

Rochester countered quickly on an unassisted goal from Mark Mancari at 2:51.

Marek Zagrapan found the back of the net for the Amerks shortly thereafter at the 5:13 point, assisted by Anthony Stewart (older brother of Lake Erie's Chris) and Clarke MacArthur.

Mancari lit the lamp again at 6:17 on a power play.  Marco-Andre Gragnani and Zagrapan were given the assists on the goal, giving the home team the 3-1 advantage.

Healey took matters into his own hands, scoring at the 11:27 mark of the middle frame while Lake Erie was shorthanded.  The assists were credited to Richardson and Michael Vernace.

Rochester re-gained a two-goal lead with Paul Baier's first goal of the season at 15:22, helped by Mancari and David Jarram.

Richardson retaliated just a few seconds later, scoring at the 15:31 mark.  Kelly and Healey assisted on the score, bring the Monsters to within one again.

Jordan Henry finished the second period scoring spree, putting the Americans back up by two (5-3) with his marker at 19:35.  Tanner Glass and Brady Calla were credited with the helpers.

Rochester out-shot Lake Erie, 17-9, in the period.

It took several minutes into the third frame before either team could find the back of the net again.  Richardson struck again at 8:21 on a power play, helped by T.J. Hensick and Healey.

Calla answered with a goal for Rochester at 14:11.  MacArthur and Drew Larman were given the assists on the score.

Richardson capped off his hat trick with a goal at the 16:47 point of the third period, assisted by Hensick and Healey on a power play.  The goal brought the Monsters to within one, but they would not get any closer, finally falling, 6-5.

Jascon Bacashihua was in goal for the Lake Erie loss, recording 27 saves on 33 shots.  His counterpart, Tyler Plante, had 18 saves on 23 shots.

The Monsters finished their inaugural season of AHL competition with a 26-41-6-7 (65 points) record and in sixth place in the North Division.
