Season In Review: Thomas Pock

With a young group of defensemen entering the season, Thomas Pock added a veteran presence to the mix. Pock played his seventh North American professional season in 2012-13, and returned this past season after playing the last three seasons professionally in Europe. With over a decade of experience as a professional and a proven track record of point production from the blue line, Pock continued to be a consistent point producer, especially on the power play.

Pock immediately contributed on the offensive end, picking up an assist in the Monsters season-opening 2-1 home win over Oklahoma City, and registering a goal and two assists in the Monsters third game of the season, a 4-0 win in Toronto on the season’s opening weekend. Pock began the season with two goals and five assists for seven points over the season’s first six games; a stretch in which he helped the Monsters to a 4-2-0-0 record out of the gate.

Overall, Pock had three multi-point games, and a pair of three-point games on the season. Pock’s second three-point game of the season came in a Monsters 4-2 road win over the Syracuse Crunch; Pock picked up a pair of goals and an assist in the win over the eventual Eastern Conference champions. Pock’s 33 points were the second highest total among Monsters defensemen in 2012-13, trailing only Karl Stollery’s total of 34 points. Pock’s 22 assists were tied for the fourth highest assist total on the team for the season, and his 13 power play points were also the fourth highest such total on the club. With 138 shots on net, Pock led all Monsters defensemen in shots.

Pock did a considerable amount of his damage offensively against the eventual North Division Champion Toronto Marlies in 2012-13. Overall, Pock picked up three goals and three assists for six points in six games played against the Marlies over the course of the campaign. Pock ended the season with a plus-three rating.
