Monsters Fall in Chicago, 5-2

Monsters Fall in Chicago

Scoresheet

Joey Hishon scored his first professional goal for the Lake Erie Monsters (29-29-3-7) but the team was unable to solve a pair of veteran Chicago Wolves (32-23-5-4) players, as the Monsters fell in Chicago by a 5-2 score Friday night. Hishon had a goal and an assist, while Stefan Elliott also scored for the Monsters. But it was Brett Sterling with three goals and former Monster Darren Haydar with three assists that dominated the night for the winning Wolves.

Sami Aittokallio stopped 10 shots in the first period following his 33-save shutout on Wednesday night- the first shutout of his professional career- to keep the game scoreless through one period.

With Chicago on the power play, Mike Davies stickhandled to the front of the Monsters net and bounced a puck over the goal line to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead at 1:19 of the middle frame.

Hishon carried the puck up the right side, cut toward the net, and bounced a backhand shot off the post, off the skate of Chicago goalie Matt Climie, and over the goalie line for his first goal as a pro to tie the game at 1-1 at 9:08 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Geoff Walker and John Negrin.

Just under four minutes later, Jim Vandermeer scored on a slap shot from the point off the goal post and in to give Chicago a 2-1 lead, which the Wolves would retain until midway through the third period.

Monsters at Wolves Elliott pulled the Monsters back to within a goal when he fired in a wrist shot from the top of the right circle at 7:32 of the third period, with assists to Hishon and Geoff Walker.

Sterling scored twice more in the back half of the third period to stretch the Wolves lead to 5-2, which is how the game would end.

Aittokallio stopped 22 of 27 in the loss, and his record falls to 13-11-1. Climie stopped 26 of 28 shots, and his record improves to 19-19-3.

The Monsters are on the ice in Peoria Saturday at 8:05 PM Eastern. All the action can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.
