Monsters Tee Off at Golf ClassicTweet08/22/2012 2:34 PM
The 27th Annual Cavaliers Youth Fund Golf Classic, in association with the Cleveland Clinic and Jani-King, was hosted for the second consecutive year at Firestone Country Club on Tuesday, August 21st. Sunny skies and a cool summer breeze welcomed Cavs coaches, alumni, Lake Erie Monsters and friends from far and wide for this “Classic” fundraising tradition, and once again, the event scored a hole-in-one for the community as part of the Cavaliers Youth Fund. Net proceeds from the Golf Classic will go to the Cavaliers Youth Fund (CYF), a fund of the Cleveland Foundation, that supports programs designed to benefit young people in the areas of education, recreation, employment and life skills with a particular emphasis on programs aimed toward at-risk youth. Since the fund’s inception in 1993, more than $22 million has been granted through CYF to local non-profit organizations. More than 200 golfers participated in this year’s outing, including celebrity golfers Cavs Majority Owner Dan Gilbert, Cavs General Manager Chris Grant, Cavs Head Coach Byron Scott, Director of AHL Operations and Monsters Assistant Coach David Oliver, Monsters Head Coach Dean Chynoweth, Cavs players C.J. Miles and Samardo Samuels, as well as Cavs Legends and former Cavs players Austin Carr, Campy Russell, Larry Nance and many others. Following the tournament, participants took to the nineteenth hole for a cocktail reception and a chance to bid on sports memorabilia in a silent auction, which will also contribute to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.
