For the 12th straight game, a Monsters game was decided by one goal. But for the first time, it took 65-plus minutes to get there. A scoreless regulation and overtime led to a shootout between the Monsters and Toronto Marlies on Saturday, which resulted in the Marlies leaving The Q with a 1-0 lead.
Monsters goalie Cedrick Desjardins stopped all 29 shots he faced in 65 minutes, but gave up two of three in the shootout. Toronto goalie Ben Scrivens had 36 saves through regulation and overtime, plus stopped all four Lake Erie shooters, earning the win for the Marlies.
