Monsters Host OKC to Finish 3-in-3Tweet01/21/2012 3:24 PM
The Lake Erie Monsters (18-20-2-1) will try to get back on the winning side of things tonight as they welcome in the top team in the Western Conference- the Oklahoma City Barons- to Quicken Loans Arena.
In one previous meeting between the two clubs this season, the Monsters fell at home to Oklahoma City (26-11-2-3) by a 3-2 score on January 4. The game comes on the heels of a 5-0 Monsters loss in Grand Rapids a night ago that snapped a three-game unbeaten-in-regulation streak. After 40 minutes a night ago, the Monsters trailed just 1-0, but a shorthanded goal allowed early in the third period swung the momentum in favor of the Griffins, who controlled for the duration of the contest. Monsters goalie Gerald Coleman stopped 34 pucks, and despite seeing five go into his net, made some very impressive saves and weathered several storms brought on by the very talented Grand Rapids forwards. Oklahoma City is riding a three-game win streak, and has allowed just five goals in their last three contests. A similarity the teams share at the moment is a slumping power play; Oklahoma City has just one power play goal in their last 38 attempts over their last eight games, and have managed to go 4-3-1-0 over that stretch. The Monsters have two power play goals in their last 27 attempts over their last six games, and are four for their last 40 attempts over their last 10 games. A major difference: the Monsters have allowed nine power play goals over their last seven games, while the Barons have successfully killed off 30 of their opponents last 31 power plays over their last nine games. The Barons penalty kill has been perfect over their last five games. |
