Prior to the start of Training Camp this week, Monsters head coach David Quinn and returning veteran players Justin Mercier and Greg Mauldin met with local media to discuss the upcoming season. One thing was constant from all three: a sense of unfinished business from last season. New broadcaster Doug Plagens caught up with Coach Quinn and the vets.

Quinn is entering his third season with the Monsters and is coming off of the best season in franchise history, having led the team to their first-ever appearance in the AHL Playoffs. In 2010-11, Quinn guided the Monsters to a record of 44-28-3-5, including franchise bests for overall wins, home victories (24), road wins (20) and points (96), while their second-place finish in the North Division also marked a franchise best.

The only player to appear in all 80 games for the Monsters last season, Mercier enters his third season with the team. Mercier, a Miami of Ohio alum, recorded 12 goals and 16 assists in 2010-11. He is tied for fourth in all-time games played for the franchise (144).

Mauldin begins his second season in Cleveland in 2011-12, having split last year between the Monsters and NHL parent club Colorado. He recorded 18 goals and 17 assists in 43 AHL games and five goals and five assists in 29 games with the Avs.
