Monsters Youth Hockey

Cleveland Area Youth and Amateur Hockey

The Lake Erie Monsters are proud to be a part of youth hockey all across Northeast and Central Ohio. Northeast Ohio is one of the largest youth/amateur hockey markets in the United States and has a populous of over 250 teams from toddler-aged all the way to senior-aged adult hockey clubs. No matter your skill level or age bracket, there are a number of options to stay involved in the game of hockey.

Monsters Youth Hockey Clinics
Youtch Hockey Clinics

We now have a guaranteed dates for our In-Season Youth Hockey Clinics presented by Chipotle!

Dates:

  • Friday, November 23rd 12:30-1:30pm – Mites (6-8 year olds)
  • Saturday, February 23rd 12:30-2:15pm Mites (6-8 year olds)
  • Saturday, April 20th 12:30-1:45pm – Squirts (9-10 year olds)

To register for any of these dates, visit: http://groups.theqarena.com/lemclinics. The cost is $30 for each clinic and all clinics will be at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.

The clinic includes two complimentary tickets to the Monsters game that evening.

On Friday, November 23rd, Monsters are taking on the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30pm and will feature $1 Hot Dogs, $1 Sodas (presented by Sugardale & Pepsi, a FREE Postgame Skate (presented by Hudec Dental) and will be part of Monsters “Like” Night (Foam Finger Giveaway to the first 5,000).

On Saturday, February 23rd, the Monsters take on the Texas Stars at 7:30pm as part of Cleveland Browns Night.

Lastly, on Saturday, April 20th, the Monsters take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:30pm in the last game of the season and will be part of Fan Appreciation Night

Tour with the Monsters
Tour with the MonstersThe Tour with the Monsters, presented by Time Warner Cable and Zeppe's Pizza, is back again this year, making stops at rinks in your local communities. The Tour gives fans the chance to watch the Monsters practice, and then get out on the ice with the team afterwards for autographs and pictures.

Check out where the Tour will be rolling through this season, and come out to watch your favorite team practice and meet the players afterwards: 

  • Tuesday, October 16th - Kent State Ice Arena 6:00pm to 7:30pm
  • Monday, November 5th - C. E. Orr Arena Euclid 6:00pm to 7:30pm
  • Monday, November 19th - Gilmour Academy 6:20pm to 8:00pm
  • Monday, January 14th - Dan Kostel Recreation Garfield Hts 6:00pm to 7:30pm
  • Saturday, February 2nd - Ice Land USA Strongsville 1:00pm to 2:30pm

CSHL
CHSL Youth hockey in Northeast Ohio begins with the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL). With over 160 different teams in various age divisions and 22 youth hockey associations involved in the CSHL, there are plenty of opportunities in Northeast Ohio to be a part of hockey.

The different age levels range from:
  • Mites (7-8 years old)
  • Squirts (9-10 years old)
  • PeeWees (11-12 years old)
  • Bantams (13-14 years old).

AAA Hockey

Barons For those hockey players that look to develop their skills to the next level, there are different programs in Cleveland to continue to grow as a player.

The Cleveland Barons AAA hockey program from Squirts to 18 and under are one of the most respected programs in the country and are based out of Parma. OH. For more information about the Barons association, Click Here

Jacks

The Cleveland Jr. Jacks are another area AAA hockey program, based out of a number of rinks in Northeast Ohio. For more information about the Jacks, Click Here

The Cleveland Hockey Alliance of Strongsville and Winterhurst will be boasting a new AAA hockey program with ages from Mites to 18 and under. For more information, Click Here

High School Hockey
GCHSHL

There are approximately 45 high school hockey teams in the Greater Cleveland area. The Monsters work with these teams in terms of coordinating games at the Q, team-building events, community relation events, donations, and fundraising. The programs compete in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey league (GCHSHL)which is broken up into three talent divisions: Red, White, and Blue.

There are also a number of JV programs involved as a feeder system to these varsity hockey programs to help those kids develop their skills and continue to play.

NCHSHL

The North Coast High School Hockey League (NCHSHL) involves club hockey programs in Northeast Ohio who do not have a varsity high school program or work as their JV team. There are approximately 9 teams in the NCHSHL who compete against teams across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

There is one independent high school team, Gilmour Academy Varsity Hockey out of Gilmour Academy who competes independently. There is also one High School Prep team in Cleveland, Gilmour Prep out of Gilmour Academy who compete in the Midwest Prep Elite League.

Junior Hockey

Junior HockeyJunior Hockey in the United States is considered a step above High School hockey.

There are only two area Junior hockey teams in the Northeast Ohio area:

 

  • The Wooster Oilers of Wooster, OH, a Tier III junior hockey team in the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League (GLJHL)Jacks
  • The Cleveland Jr. Jacks of the North America Tier III Hockey League (NA3HL), a Tier III junior hockey team based out of Cleveland Heights, OH

College Hockey

College Hockey College hockey is broken down in different talent levels going from the highest NCAA Division 1 hockey to NCAA Division III. There are three NCAA Division I programs: Ohio State, Miami University and Bowling Green. There are no NCAA Division III programs.

The highest level of competition outside of NCAA in college hockey is the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Founded in 1991, the ACHA is one of the most respected college hockey organizations with over 430 programs in the United States. This is also separated by three divisions: ACHA Division 1, 2, and 3. The ACHA is a respectable association of teams and a valid option for players looking to extend their hockey careers after high school or junior hockey and pursue an education.

Adult Hockey
There are a number of adult hockey recreation programs as well as competitive programs in the Northeast Ohio area. Almost every area rink has a sponsored adult league, some of the biggest being Hockey North America (HNA) in North Olmsted, IceLand Adult Hockey (Strongsville and Winterhurst), Cleveland Heights Adult Hockey (Cleveland Heights), The Pond Adult Hockey (Chagrin Falls), and Mentor Adult Hockey (Mentor). The Monsters have an active core of enthusiastic hockey players who are above the age of 18 and still love to play. To learn more about how to coordinate ice time for your adult league team or even to have a fundraising opportunity, email the Monsters Youth Hockey Specialist.

Rink of Dreams!
Be on Ice!

The area hockey teams mentioned above are not the only ones that have the chance to skate on the Monsters ice. You can too!

The Monsters Rink of Dreams presented by Dick's Sporting Goods provides the opportunity for ice time to be available on each home game day. A minimum ticket purchase is required to rent the ice in either one or two hour blocks. The ice will also be available during the first intermission of every Monsters home game.

Tickets that are purchased to use the ice at The Q will be discounted from the face value. Often times teams will use then re-sell the tickets at face value as a group fundraiser. Just one idea for you and your team to make it on ice at The Q!
